Second language learners and native speakers of Italian needed for a research study on language

The study investigates the processing of some complex Italian syntactic structures by both Italian native speakers and second language learners/speakers of Italian. You will be asked to read some Italian sentences and to answer some comprehension questions. You will also complete an Italian language proficiency test and the entire session will last approximately 1.5 hours. You will be reimbursed 15$ for your time.

To participate you must be either a native or a second language speaker/learner of Italian with the following eligibility criteria:

Second language learners/speakers of Italian

  • 18 – 45 years old
  • Currently taking (or recently taken) an intermediate/advanced course (or a third semester) of Italian in college/private school OR
  • Recently taken a beginner course (or at least 2 semesters) of Italian in college/private school and spent at least 1 semester living and working/studying in Italy OR
  • Currently in (or recently finished) a Master/PhD/Post-Doc in Italian

Native speakers of Italian

  • 18 – 45 years old
  • Born and raised in Italy
  • If currently you are not living in Italy, you moved abroad after the age of 18 and you lived abroad for no more than 1 year.

The task will be completed remotely, at the participant’s own convenient time and place. The participant must have access to internet and a computer to complete the task. Payment will be issued electronically (via Venmo or PayPal) once the task, the proficiency test and the linguistic background questionnaire are completed.
